It is not always necessary to hire someone to renovate a home. Simple home improvements can often be done by one’s self, instead of contracting out to hire a professional. Ironically, at times it is more likely one will receive a higher quality product by simply doing their work. Obviously this is not always the case. However, Do it yourself (DIY) is an extremely popular idea in the modern day home, and many stores have benefitted greatly from the boom. DIY is a great concept, and there are usually only a few things one needs to keep in mind to decide whether to hire someone or to do it themselves.
Can you afford a contractor?
It seems many people completely overlook the first issue, which is the actual cost of a contractor. Granted there are often cheaper alternatives, but it is quite possible that one might choose a rotten contractor and end up worse off than when one started. Make sure you can afford a quality contractor.
Do you know how to do it or could you learn it?
Is this something you already know how to do? If you can do it yourself, why wouldn’t you? If your time is valuable enough to afford a contractor, obviously that is the way to go. However, if you are a perfectionist and your contractor messes it up or doesn’t do a perfect job, are you going to spend time trying to fix it yourself?
Randy Palazzo has built up a team of contractors he knows and trusts, and they have worked on hundreds of projects together.
